🐅 Hosted by: The new LGBTQIA+ Caucus within OPAWL – Building AAPI Feminist Leadership, focusing on community, solidarity and queer/trans/non-binary representation for AAPI communities throughout Ohio.
📅 Date: IN-PERSON Thursday April 14th, 2022 — proof of vaccination required; masks are encouraged.
⏰ Time: 5:30 – 7:30 PM
🦢Location: Wild Goose Creative, 188 McDowell St. Columbus OH 43215
🎭 Event description: A safe, open mic event for queer, trans and non-binary AAPI members to be in community with one another in light of the increased violence against our Asian elders across the nation. We wish for this event to be a Renaissance, if only for 2 hours, to bask in the power and vibrance of our strength through creativity, expressing our diverse, lived experiences as queer Asians. We hope for a renewal of spirit and healing, in conjunction with the beginning of springtime in Ohio.
We will be providing light refreshments and snacks, as well as selling caucus T-shirts, of which proceeds will be redistributed throughout the organization and/or its partnerships to support the Ohio AAPI community. Other free informational resources will also be available at our front desk, such as LGBTQ+ glossary terms etc. We will be serving light refreshments and snacks during the break as well.
🧶 OPAWL membership and caucus membership is limited to Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander women and non-binary folks. We welcome family, friends and allies of AAPI attendees/performers, including children!
✔️Please RSVP by April 13, and if you are interested in performing, be sure to indicate so below and fill in the appropriate details. Parking and building access directions will be emailed to those who RSVP as well as the schedule and line-up of activities planned for the night as soon as it is finalized. We are TRULY excited for our first official caucus event, and we look forward to building the future of our AAPI LGBTQ+ caucus with you!
